READING THE BOOKS
Are the books really free?
Yes. The first books in the Aegis-verse are free to read online, in full. Complete stories, not samples, not first chapters, not a teaser that stops at the good part. You can read them start to finish without paying us anything or giving us a credit card.
We would rather earn your money after you know whether we’re any good.
At a certain point, the books will be purchase only, but only after we feel we’ve provided significant value to you the reader.
Where should I start?
Book one: The Rake.
Every Aegis book carries its number on the spine and on the opening page, so from there you just follow the numbers. The button below lays out the full order.
Do I have to read them in a particular order?
There is an order, and we recommend it.
The Aegis-verse is serialized. The first saga runs across five series, read in this order: The Rake, Cyber Shinobi, Casino Jackson, Andy Ultra, and Aegis of Imperia, which is the spine the others feed into. Each series tells its own story, but they interlock, and events in one land harder if you’ve read what came before.
So we made it simple: every book is numbered on the spine and on the opening page. Read them in numerical order and you’ll never have to guess where you are or what you’ve missed.
You can read out of order if you want to, and individual books will still make sense. You’ll just be trading away some of the payoff. We’d rather tell you that up front than let you find out in book nine.
What do I get when I buy a book?
Every Aegis book is sold as a combined package: the online access, digital EPUB and the paperback together, for $19.99 plus shipping. You own all three.
We don’t sell the digital edition separately.
What formats do you publish in?
EPUB and paperback, with hardcover and collector’s editions available on select titles. Audiobooks will be available to download as part of combo packages, free of charge, and included in the online reader at no extra cost.
Where can I buy your books?
Directly from this site. The links take you to our distributor IngramSpark. Browse our library and click on the book you want to purchase.
ABOUT THE STORIES
What genres do you publish?
The Aegis-Verse is a science fiction and fantasy universe, wide enough to hold every genre inside it: Action, horror, mythology, romance, crime, mystery, war, and epic adventure.
You say you’re a Conservative Christian company. Are these Christian books?
Not in the way that phrase usually means. These aren’t sermons, tracts, or inspirational fiction, and nobody in an Aegis book stops the story to lecture you.
What our values shape is what the stories take seriously: courage costs something, sacrifice matters, redemption is possible but never cheap, evil is real, and characters live with what they choose. Some of our characters wrestle with faith, and some of them arrive somewhere by the end. That’s character, not catechism. It gets earned on the page or it doesn’t happen.
Here’s the difference you’re more likely to notice: we treat Christianity with respect. We don’t use it as shorthand for hypocrisy, stupidity, or villainy, and we don’t write believers as punchlines. That has become common enough in film and publishing that a lot of readers stopped expecting anything else. You won’t find it here.
If you’re worried you’re about to be preached at, you aren’t. If you’re hoping for a story that believes right and wrong are real things, you’re in the right place.
Are the books appropriate for kids?
Our books are written for adults. Recommended for readers 18 and up.
That isn’t a locked gate, and plenty of younger readers will handle them fine. But these are adult stories with adult themes, profanity, violence, and mature subject matter, and the horror titles are written to actually frighten you. Romance is handled with restraint and sexual content is implied rather than described, but that’s the only place we pull back.
If you’re a parent deciding what your kid reads, that call is yours, and we’ve told you what’s in the books. Questions about a specific title? Ask us before you buy it.
How often do you publish?
Our goal is four novels per year. We would rather move a release than ship a book that isn’t ready, so treat that as a target rather than a promise.
HOW THE BOOKS ARE MADE
Do you use AI to write your books?
No. Every story, character, world, theme, plot, and line of dialogue originates with a human author, and every draft is written by the author.
We do use AI in editorial: it reviews manuscripts, scores them against our craft thresholds, and proposes line edits during final polish, which the author accepts, rewrites, or throws out. AI proposes. The author decides. Nothing enters a manuscript unless the author put it there.
We’ve published the whole process in detail rather than making you take our word for it.
Why tell us about the AI at all?
Because you’d rather hear it from us than find out later, and because we would rather answer an uncomfortable question than deserve one.
Who is Jack McEvans?
Our founding author, and the creator of the Aegis-verse. He writes the horror quadrilogy The Rake, the mythic saga Aegis of Imperia, and the growing roster of worlds connected to them.
Are you accepting submissions?
Not yet. We’re focused on establishing our first titles. When submissions open, it will be announced through the Aegis Dispatch and social media.
You mentioned a 20-author limit. Why?
Growth is the easiest thing in the world to chase and the fastest way to lose the thing that made you worth reading. We would rather stay small and stay good.
THE FOUNDERS CLUB
What is the Aegis Founders Club?
A one-time membership, limited to 10,000 people, for readers who want to help build the universe rather than just follow it. Founders receive every Jack McEvans novel free in digital for life, 50% off physical editions, their name in the back of every book Aegis publishes, and more.
Is this an investment?
No. Founding membership is a purchase, not an investment. It carries no equity, no ownership, no share of revenue or profit, and no financial return of any kind. You are pre-purchasing books and benefits, nothing more.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Founding memberships carry a 90-day refund window, no questions asked.
What happens to my membership if Aegis Publishing is sold or closes?
If Aegis is sold, your membership goes with it. Any transfer of the company carries Founder obligations as a condition of sale.
If Aegis closes, here’s the straight version: every book you’ve already received is yours permanently. Your files are DRM-free and downloadable, they don’t depend on our servers, and nothing we do can take them back. That protection doesn’t require us to still exist.
What we won’t do is promise you a cash refund we might not be able to honor. A company that closes is a company without money, and creditors are paid before customers under the law. Anyone promising otherwise is telling you something they can’t guarantee.
That’s why the 90-day refund window exists, and why we’d rather you use it than take our word for anything.
