Mike Azzirello hasn’t been to his grandfather’s cabin in years. It’s his now, left to him by a man he never really understood: a hunting lodge deep in the woods, thirty miles from the nearest town and further than that from help. A long weekend with friends seemed like the right way to break it in. The cabin is wrong, and nobody can say why. The walls are too thick. There’s a gun safe in the living room that nobody can open.

Then something comes out of the trees.

The road out is gone. Help is thirty miles away and nobody is coming. All they have is a locked safe, whatever they packed for a weekend, and each other. They set a trap. It takes the trap apart. They try something else. It’s already waiting. The thing in the woods isn’t just trying to kill them.
